Last year HERON (Historic Exeter Retail Owners Network) and Exeter Parks and Recreation teamed up to offer Kids’ Day on the first Saturday in May. It was so well attended, they are back again offering a fantastic, family-friendly, and mostly free event.
The idea for Kids’ Day came from a couple of the HERON members. This day is a great opportunity for families to come down and enjoy much of what downtown Exeter has to offer. Most of the activities are in the general downtown area, making it a very walkable event.
This year, thanks to ConvenientMD, Wayne from Maine is performing from 1:00-1:45. Sammie Haynes from Music Together will kick off the afternoon performing from 12:00 – 12:45. Both of these performances will be at the Town House Common Park (corner of Front & Court Streets). The organizers indicated that in the event of rain, these performances will most likely be staged behind George & Phillips, underneath the George & Phillips’ carport.
Some of last year’s favorite activities including Tricky Dick the Magician, the Touch-a-Truck, face painting, and fish printing are all returning. In addition, there are several new activities including a bubble blowing extravaganza, make your own super-hero-cape, and an inflatable t-ball game.
Maps will be available the day of the event. The event, in downtown, runs from noon – 4:00 pm and is geared for children up to age 11.
In addition to ConvenientMD, other sponsors include Access Sports Medicine and Citizens Bank. While downtown on Saturday, make sure you also visit the American Independence Museum offering free admission for all NH residents with a valid photo id and Krypton Comics celebrating National Free Comic Book Day.
